Our rose collection is based on the work of Pierre-Joseph Redoute. Redoute was an art teacher to Queen Marie Antoinette and both of Napoleon's wives. Inspired by Empress Josephine's garden at Malmaison in Paris, he painted a wonderful collection of roses "Les Roses" which was printed between 1817 and 1824. Tragically, the original paintings were destroyed in a fire in the Library of the Louvre.
