It’s all about Colour

It’s all about Colour

I dyed all the fabrics for this quilt – Procion MX dyes, low water immersion.
A progression of shades from cool Yellow to Red to Blue and then a second progression from warm Yellow to Red to Blue; then the same progressions replacing the Yellow with Black.
It’s difficult to see in the photo, but there are some absolutely beautiful colors in reds, purples, plums, chocolates.
It was a really interesting and worthwhile exercise in dyeing fabrics and done in such a way that I can reproduce any of the colors whenever I want.

Lyn’s Quilt – Tabula Rasa

Lyn’s first art quilt – Tabula Rasa

This quilt started with a plain white piece of fabric. It was inspired by an incident that upset me.

I dyed the fabric first, using Procion dyes; then added Shiva Paintsticks, screen printing, foiling, painted web.

The three circles represent the influences that I see affecting us in  our lives – Family first, then Friends.

These circles are applique, painted and then machine embroidered.

The third circle is Depression – Is there any way out? I think we suffer from depression when the other two influences in our lives are out of balance.

There is a screen-printed line from Simon and Garfunkel that is difficult to see –

Hello darkness my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again

I then quilted it with overlapping and intersecting cirlces.

I like the result – am very happy with this quilt. Making it helped me deal with the problem.

Christine’s Art Quilts

Christine has made two stunning art quilts, using the Challenge fabric provided by Queensland Quilters.

Lord of the Forest

Shambhala

The floral fabric in these two amazing quilts is the challenge fabric. Christine used applique, tranpunto, some hand embroidery and rhinestones as embellishment. She added details with fabric paint, and quilted them, free motion, of course.

They are each 50cm x 70cm.
