Lyn’s first art quilt – Tabula Rasa
This quilt started with a plain white piece of fabric. It was inspired by an incident that upset me.
I dyed the fabric first, using Procion dyes; then added Shiva Paintsticks, screen printing, foiling, painted web.
The three circles represent the influences that I see affecting us in our lives – Family first, then Friends.
These circles are applique, painted and then machine embroidered.
The third circle is Depression – Is there any way out? I think we suffer from depression when the other two influences in our lives are out of balance.
There is a screen-printed line from Simon and Garfunkel that is difficult to see –
Hello darkness my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again
I then quilted it with overlapping and intersecting cirlces.
I like the result – am very happy with this quilt. Making it helped me deal with the problem.
